Yesterday we celebrate the delivery of the XXV Award Natura in a very special way. In the last editions we received the winners in our offices, a very close and intimate meeting where we chatted about the project and gave them their prize. Natura Award This year, coinciding with the XXV Anniversary of the Prize Natura, we decided to do something different. We believed that this year I had to celebrate! Celebrate that the award continues in Natura. Celebrate that there are already more than 50 projects to which we have been able to help. Celebrate that almost 2 million euros have been distributed in more than 30 countries ... so we decided to organize an event in our space Natura of Pelayo Street in Barcelona where all the winning NGOs could be known among them and present their projects. In addition, all workers in Natura We were invited to attend. Natura XXV Award   The first turn was for Great friends, whose project is responsible for offering emotional support to older people who feel alone to prevent their isolation in their social environment and improve the quality of their mood and emotional conditions, through the support of volunteers. Spain is one of the countries of the European Union with higher figures of older people, 17% of the Spanish population are over 65 years old (more than 8 million people). The proportion of people over 80 years grow in a greater proportion, exceeding 5% of the total population. With age, the disability rate also increases: from 80 half of the Spaniards have difficulty performing daily activities. The program takes as a fundamental axis the elderly encompassing a set of actions to alleviate their situation of solitude, regardless of whether they live at their home or in residence. This is responding to the affective and relational needs of this, expanding in turn the social network of informal support with which it counts and promoting inclusive leisure and autonomy to improve its quality of life. Natura XXV Award   Open Arms His project in Senegal then presented us. A project that does not match the image we all have from this NGO because it does not develop on the high seas, but its development is crucial to save lives. Torture, extortion and even death are usual situations during the journey to Europe. Migrating is a fundamental right, and they defend it, but it is important that the decision to migrate is taken free. That is why this project aims to inform and form in origin so that there is not a more life to drift in the sea and on earth. They told us that there are many times when they hear the phrase: "If we had known that our situation would be this, we would never have abandoned our country." That is why they decided to start the project "Origin St. Louis". The best way to save lives, is to go to the origin. Together with local organizations that want to be part of this positive and constructive change they work for:
  1. Deconstruct the imaginary about migration to Europe through information and community reflection on its alternatives.
  2. Create collaboration and work networks with the private sector to promote labor insertion.
  3. Empower the community and their young people facilitating access to digital pedagogical tools and professional training.
Natura XXV Award Natura XXV Award   Finally, since Association Hàbitats They explained how they carry out the Ríos Conservation Project. Its objective is to promote the active participation of society in the conservation and improvement of the rivers. It encourages the approach of people to the environment and allows to know the characteristics of river ecosystems and their ecological and sociocultural importance, as well as the problems they suffer and what can be done to alleviate them. The project is structured in three lines of work: the inspection of rivers, the adoption and custody of river spaces and environmental education activities. Natura XXV Award   After the presentations we were able to talk more informally with all of them. Our sincere thanks for the great work they do and for getting a little time to attend the event. And thanks to all those who followed us live through Instagram :) Find more information about the winners here.
