John Lennon
I photographed him on a trip to Cabo Verde that I made, as a volunteer photographer, for the NGO Medicus Mundi Catalunya. It happened in the capital, Praia. I accompanied Kaká, a Rasta boy who eventually worked as a guide for NGO collaborators in the country. And that, one day, on the return of work, he asked me to do the favor of taking a picture of his dear nephew. We go home, located in one of the poorest neighborhoods in the capital. Upon arrival, Kaká shouted very strong: John Lennon !! At the point a child appeared - with blond dye hair due to the effect of the high concentration of salt in the sea - and replied:place? Seeing my stuffed face, Kaká smiled, hit me on the shoulder and told me: He is John Lennon, I put his name and that's what his name is. And added:Do you think there could be a better name for him? I replied no. And photograph John Lennon in the courtyard of his house. After fifteen years, the Embassy of Spain in Cabo Verde contacted me and asked me to exhibit some of the photographs of my trip to the archipelago. I accepted with pleasure. The copies were made and settled in a room in the house of the culture of Praia. Where people could see them for a month. I attended the inauguration. And, after my return to Barcelona, they called me to tell me that John Lennon - with almost twenty years behind him - had visited the exhibition. And that, having recognized in the photograph that I had taken years, he shouted: That is me and that's mine. Then, the copy of the wall took off, put it under his arm and left with her home. It seemed very good to me.   Pepe Navarro
