Today, March 21, is World Down Syndrome Day. This syndrome is a natural chromosomal combination that has always been part of the human condition. It exists in all regions of the world and, usually, has variable effects on learning styles, physical characteristics or health. Proper access to health care, early intervention programs and inclusive teaching, as well as proper research, are vital for the growth and development of the person. About a year ago, Natura He began his collaboration with the Aura Foundation, a non -profit entity that was born in 1989 to help improve the quality of life of people with intellectual disabilities through social and labor inclusion. This Foundation launched the first “Employment with Support” program in Spain, a pioneer in the implementation and development of this methodology. Aura Fundació proposed to incorporate Maria, a girl with Down syndrome, and we don't think twice. In May 2018, María became part of the store staff in Natura Advice of one hundred (Barcelona). He started doing temporary practices but, thanks to his enthusiasm, dedication and effort, after a few months he definitely joined the store template, protected by the Foundation following the “Employment with Support” program. Over time he has developed very special links with his companions, with whom he maintains a very close relationship. Working with Maria is a fantastic and super emotional experience: we still moved to remember the greeting card he made to the supervisor of her store for Christmas, where he thanked for giving him the opportunity to have a job. Every day he learns new things and little by little he takes autonomy. Its evolution is surprising. Maria is very cheerful, super punctual and hardworking, and when her companions ask him ‘how are you today’ he always answers ‘Wonder!’ Hopefully everyone went to work with his enthusiasm every morning! Maria and her partner Maria and her supervisor Mari With this collaboration we want to raise awareness among our audiences and demonstrate that all people have different capacities and, specifically, they all have the capacity to work. If you want to collaborate with this cause, you can participate in the #AradoWnsday and acquire your solidarity socks, available online. All benefits will be allocated entirely to the work of the Aura Foundation. Because all people with intellectual disabilities can have a quality life and work. Good day!
